The tgat (traffic generation and tracing) utilities are used for sourcing and sinking TCP traffic for network testing. They are very similar to ttcp and netperf except that tgat is also able to capture the packets that constitute the transfer -- and, only the packets that make up the transfer in question. This tool was developed for the NIMI measurement infrastructure whereby we did not have access to a general purpose packet capture facility, but were able to gain access to capture packets from our TCP transfers via these tools since they employ strict filters to ensure that packets are only captured from the flow we create. The tgat tools consist of traffic, a traffic generator, and discardd, a traffic sink.
The tools have been extensively tested under FreeBSD and NetBSD. The tools have been lightly tested under Linux and Solaris.
